Sinatra & Company

Young-191 Here, we celebrate Frank Sinatra, the man who redefined modern singing and recording the great American songbook more thoroughly than anyone else. However, "Sinatra and Company" is not just a trip down memory lane. The constant addition of new artists and new releases keeps it fresh with the latest in new vocals, big band, small group jazz, bop, broadway, blues and even hip-hop. Sinatra was constantly on the hunt for "more". Within the industry he was known as "Mr. More". This show will always look for more.

S&C Returns!

Posted on 01/24/2010 by Shawn Conway
Hello everyone! It's time we began our third semester of Sinatra & Company! Just to settle into the groove once again, I'll be playing a variety of songs, including many from cd's I got for Christmas! It should be a very enjoyable show with a different set of music! We'll be hearing from N.E.R.D's Album, "Seeing Sounds" as well as Esperanza Spalding, Roy Hargrove with his new Album "Emergence", even some of the electronic group, "JUSTICE", and of course, Mr. Sinatra and friends. Don't miss it at 7pm ET, 4pm PT.

Christmas With Frank, Part II

Posted on 12/13/2009 by Shawn Conway
The Holiday Season is in full swing as we finish the fall semester here at Berklee College Of Music. What better way is there to kick off finals week than some jazzy Christmas music? Moreover, for all those kids already finished and back home with their families, what better way is there to celebrate? Come enjoy the music of my childhood, the songs of many eras in my last show for the fall semester at 7pm ET, 4pm PT on The Berklee Internet Radio Network. Happy Holidays everyone.

I've given in and began my own personal celebration of the Christmas Season starting this coming Sunday with our first part of our "Christmaspalooza", "Christmas Extravaganza", whichever you prefer. I'll be featuring all the tunes from my childhood, such as Natalie Cole, The Manhattan Transfer, The Rat Pack, Jane Monheit, Rosemary Clooney, The Singers Unlimited, Stan Kenton, and of course, Frank Sinatra. We will also try to feature some Hanukkah songs as well as much, much more!

DON'T miss out!

This Sunday, December 6th, 7:00 PM ET, 4:00 PM PT on The BIRN.

The Lyrics Of Johnny Mercer (Part Two)

Posted on 11/29/2009 by Shawn Conway
Lyricist, composer and singer Johnny Mercer was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1909. He had hit songs with Bing Crosby in the late 1930s, with Jo Stafford ("Candy') and on his own, especially "Accentuate the Positive." On the radio he sang with Benny Goodman and had his own shows, including "Johnny Mercer's Music Shop." Greatly admired in the music industry both personally and for his intelligent, optimistic lyrics, he wrote or co-wrote over 1,100 songs, including "Blues in the Night," "That Old Black Magic," "One For My Baby, "Come Rain or Come Shine" (all with Harold Arlen); "Lazy Bones" and "Skylark" with Hoagy Carmichael; "I'm a Old Cowhand," "I Remember You," "P.S. I Love You," "Jeepers Creepers," "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby," "When a Woman Loves a Man," "Too Marvelous for Words," and "Fools Rush In." He won Academy Awards for "The Atchison, Topeka and The Santa Fe" (1946, with Harry Warren), "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening" (1951, with Hoagy Carmichael), "Moon River' (1961, with Henry Mancini) and "Days of Wine an Roses" (1962, with Mancini). As president and co-founder of Capitol Records, Mercer was instrumental in the early recording careers of such musicians as Peggy Lee and Nat King Cole. He died in Los Angeles in 1976.

Movie magic is alot more difficult today than it was in the past. Movie's back then had more soul and because it was so far back in the past, people were still finding new ways of making film more invovative.
