Coming to Boston in 2015 originally to study musical theater at the Boston Conservatory, then discovering her love for songwriting and studying at Berklee College of Music, Cindy Latin shares with us her newly discovered passion through performing her originals.

Aizhou to Appear on BIRN Alive

Tune in to BIRN1 on Saturday, September 15 at 4:00 p.m. EDT for the first BIRN Alive session of the fall semester featuring singer-songwriter Aizhou.

Beijing-born and Shanghai-raised, Aizhou grew up in a richly multicultural environment, impacting her outlook and the music she produces. She started classical training in piano at 5, but her musical journey truly began when she discovered Western punk and pop rock in her teens. Inspired by these genres and her traditional Chinese music roots, Aizhou started writing her own songs and taught herself to play guitar. At 17, she founded a rock band and went on to represent her high school in local showcases and events.

Jóse Pablo Soto to Appear on BIRN Alive

Jóse is a singer-songwriter and producer born and raised in Guatemala. He is now based in Boston at Berklee. He is influenced by jazz and Latin music and while he’s been building his reputation in the music industry he’s been signed to Mad Monkey Media Records.

House of Waters Live from The Red Room

House of Waters is a three-piece band based in Brooklyn. With Max ZT on hammered dulcimer, Moto Fukushima on six-string bass, and Berklee grad Ignacio Rivas Bixio on percussion, they combine influences from all over the world to make beautiful, complex, and genuine compositions. House of Waters has been described as “a rare and beautiful gem,” while their performances are said to be “a sight to behold.” Their most recent record, House of Waters, is on Snarky Puppy’s label GroundUp Music and rose to #2 on the iTunes World Music Charts.
